Trustee Vacancy – Corporate Fundraising and Partnerships (Voluntary)

Leadership from a Trustee with a proven track record in fundraising and cementing long-term relationships with partners will be critical to Trailblazers’ challenging ambition to help young people positively rebuild their lives.

What does it involve? Building on its reputation for providing crucial mentoring support to young offenders, Trailblazers Mentoring is extending the scope and reach of its mentoring activities to benefit more young people, their families and communities. Embarking on and realising this ambition will require sustainable funding and collaborative partnerships.

Leadership from a trustee with a proven track record in fundraising and cementing long-term, symbiotic relationships with key partners will be critical in realising the targets for growth Trailblazers has set itself.    The trustee will provide on-going guidance to the Trailblazers Board on establishing and maintaining corporate and High Net Worth (HNW) funding and partnerships, including advice on aligning organisations ‘ corporate social responsibilities (CSR) and demonstrating value to funders and partners. The trustee will introduce Trailblazers to his/her existing corporate networks and partnerships, as well as seek to establish new relationships, in each case in order to:

  • secure ongoing, in-kind support for Trailblazers, which may include ‘pro bono’ consultancy, professional services and other expertise;
  • facilitate sponsored and other fundraising efforts on behalf of Trailblazers; and
  • promote the recruitment of new volunteer mentors
  • identify and broker employment opportunities for mentees
  • update their network with news about the charity, including current projects, achievements, awards and thought leadership

What are we looking for? The ideal trustee should be passionate and committed to supporting young people rebuild their lives having served custodial sentences;. A proven track record of fundraising and securing partnerships; followed up through robust demonstration of the value delivered to funders is essential. Prepared to be actively involved – the size of Trailblazers means each trustee has responsibilities for delivering elements of the strategic plan to augment the small team of employees. Ideally professional and/or volunteering experience in a challenging sector – criminal justice is often contentious and emotive.

What difference will you make? Reducing re-offending by young people with previous convictions has an enormous value to the individuals. Securing employment and housing, re-establishing family relationships and becoming a positive member of the community – often as a role model to teenagers experiencing chaotic lives can make a real difference.   The cost of re-offending goes well beyond the judicial system – impacting families and communities for generations.

What’s in it for the volunteer? Working with a leading prison mentoring charity is inspiring. The Board and team at Trailblazers are all professionals with a huge depth of experience across criminal justice, as well as the corporate and public sectors.
